What We Do

Stormwater System Retrofit Design

We design stormwater system retrofit projects for vehicle-impacted stormwater retention ponds and receiving ditches. Our designs are based on specific chemical removal requirements, with 6PPD-q being our primary focus.

Stormwater Catch Basin Inserts

Our newest catch basin insert is designed to hold a sock filled with compost-based media proven to remove 6PPD-q from roadway and parking structure stormwater.  6PPD-q is a recently discovered transformation product of 6PPD, which is used ubiquitously in the tire industry. Through tire wear-out, this chemical is washing into waterways, causing lasting developmental and lethal effects on aquatic life.

Targeted Pollutant Removal Solutions

Using the same technology as our targeted 6PPD-q removal products, we can adjust the filtration media to address additional specific hydrocarbon and heavy metal concerns in a variety of stormwater applications.

What is 6PPD-Q?

6PPD-Q, a breakdown product of the common tire additive 6PPD, has emerged as a significant environmental concern due to its toxic effects on aquatic life, particularly fish. When stormwater runoff carries this compound into waterways, it has been shown to severely impact fish populations, leading to high mortality rates and impaired reproductive health. Research indicates that 6PPD-Q can interfere with critical biological processes in fish, such as immune function and behavior, creating vulnerabilities that can devastate local ecosystems.

VIS Catch Basin inserts and VIS Socks have been proven to remove high quantities of 6PPD-Q from vehicle impacted stormwater, before it has a chance to impact our aquatic ecosystems.
